Doing Business in South Korea

MEETING and NEGOTIATING OVER MEALS Dining in Korea is very important since, as mentioned earlier, most business meetings are held over breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Make sure to leave your shoes at the entrance of the restaurant pointed away from the building.

Use chopsticks when eating and when finished, set these on the table or on the rest provided. Do not place your chopsticks on top of your bowl because it is considered bad luck and sticking these on top of rice is an insult since that is how offerings are made to ancestors. If drinking is involved, do not finish your drink if you do not want a refill because it will be automatically filled by your host. Offer to fill your host’s drink in case you they have finished theirs.
